Hidden Racism in ‘Professional’ Standards

Good read… reminds me a lesson I learned about how something as innocuous as a test question as “State the steps to create a peanut butter and jelly sandwich” is actually geared to people from certain regions. Much of the world has no clue what a PB&J sandwich is. Just as I’d have no clue how to create a dish that is popular in a place like inner Mongolia. In short, if the test is to climb a tree, even the fastest fish in the ocean would fail. Thinking outside your own experience is a vital skillset.
